La Luna Cigars International
Miami, FL, January
2001 One of the most popular
boutique brands of 2000
was La Luna Maduro Fuerte.
With their smooth yet powerful flavor
and reasonable prices, the Maduro
Fuerte line became a big hit with
experienced smokers and even developed
a loyal following of enthusiasts
called Lunatics.
We wanted to better understand this
new force in the cigar business
and La Luna Cigars owner Gael de
Courtivron graciously agreed to
answer some of our questions and
talk about his latest line: the
African Fuertes. Gael also answers
some questions from Cigar Weekly
Members.

La
Luna Cigars
Once
well on its way to flying high during the boom,
La Luna Cigars was battered by unfortunate business
deals during a volatile era in the industry.
Humbly starting over, the brand and the company
has bravely retrenched and finally rebounded,
a testament to its founder, a dedicated staff,
and a core following of consumers.

I
have smoked a tremendous number of different
cigars over the years as part of my daily
routine. Many are new cigars that others wish
for me to sample and assess, and honestly
most are ho-hum smokes. Every once in awhile
though, I come across a cigar that I find
to be real joy to smoke and I add it my rotation
along with my old time favorites. Below are
three cigars that I consider worthwhile -
some are new, while others are time tested
veterans. I can not promise you will like
them all, but I regard each as fine cigar
well worth your sampling. I offer them as
smokable suggestions. by
